This is especially true when it comes to his diet while on medication. He should be careful with the kind of food or beverage he consumes and should not take other drugs without consulting his doctor. Lets take the case of someone who has been prescribed with citalopram. This is a drug used to treat clinical depression in adults or what is also called as major depression. When you are on citalopram, one of the substances you should avoid is alcohol. Why is this so? Since alcohol is a depressant, not only would it generate adverse effects in the long run but it will diminish the effectiveness of citalopram. Citalopram and alcohol should be avoided because the latter will serve to increase the negative symptoms of alcohol, one of which is depression. In addition, no one can tell what other complications may arise.
